How we can help

We understand that life and problems can get overwhelming sometimes and it can be hard to work out what to do.

Distressing situations can arise for anyone at any time, we’re here to help you:

    • explore your options and decide your next step
    • access accommodation
    • find a safe and stable home
    • leave your current living situation
    • remain safely in your existing housing
    • navigate the, sometimes complex, systems of support available
    • stabilise and manage your mental health
    • link in with relevant cultural services and supports

    No one-size-fits-all service

    Our team is specially-trained to work with you and tailor an approach that will meet your individual needs.

    Working in collaboration with a diverse range of services (e.g. your General Practitioner, psychiatrist, community health Case Manager, psychologist, social worker, cultural groups and specialists) and housing providers we tailor an approach that best suits you. The intensity and duration of our support is based on your unique circumstances, experiences, culture and choices. 

      Who we help

      We provide tailored, one-on-one support to women over 18 years old, without accompanying children, who are, or are at risk of, experiencing homelessness and living with mental ill-health.

      There is no ‘typical’ type of situation the women we support are in.

      In our experience, a housing crisis can happen to anyone. We’ve helped 18-year-olds and 80-year-olds; mums and women without children; women studying and women who are retired; those from overseas and those who have never left Australia; widows and grandmothers; those experiencing stress and those living with mental ill-health.

      Our programs can provide support to women in recovery from substance dependency, however we are unable to accommodate women in active addiction.

      How to get help

      • Contact us to discuss your situation (or your client/patient’s situation) on 1800 274 984 between 9am and 4.30pm Monday to Friday or email intake@bmiles.org.au. If you don’t get through on the phone, please leave us a message or call back until we answer.
      • We’ll arrange an in-person meeting to discuss your needs and work out how we may be able to support you. 
      • We’ll ask for your consent to liaise with your other supports (e.g. General Practitioner, psychiatrist, community health Case Manager, psychologist, social worker) in order to provide you with integrated co-ordinated care. If you’re not already linked with other supports, we can assist you to receive quality care to best support your recovery. 
      • If we don’t have any vacancies, we’ll put your name on our wait-list and will work with you to keep you safe while you’re waiting for a placement in one of our programs.
      • We are happy to communicate with you using  the Translating and Interpreting Service (TIS). Please call the TIS on 131 450 and ask them to call us on 1800 274 984.

      Find help any time, any day of the week

      Call 000 if your life is in danger or you need immediate support to keep yourself safe from harm.

      Call Lifeline on 13 11 14 for 24/7 support if you’re experiencing suicidal thoughts or are in crisis.

      Call the NSW Mental Health Line on 1800 011 511 for 24/7 mental health support. When you call, you will be able to speak with a mental health worker about your symptoms and they will make some suggestions based on what care you may need.

      Call Link2Home on 1800 152 152 for 24/7 homelessness information and support, and access to urgent accommodation.

      Call the NSW Domestic Violence Line on 1800 656 463 for counselling and referrals if you’re experiencing domestic and family violence. Caseworkers on the Domestic Violence Line can help you to develop a safety plan, get hospital care, counselling and family support services. They can also talk to you about an Apprehended Violence Order (AVO) and how to get one. They can help you with transport and can help you to talk to the police, courts and lawyers.

      Contact the National Debt Helpline online or on 1800 007 007 for help with debt problems, financial counselling, and guidance on where and how to apply for emergency financial assistance.

      Contact Carers Australia online or on 1800 242 636 if you’re a carer for short-term counselling, emotional and psychological support services.
